What Is Botox?

Botox, or Botulinum Toxin, is a cosmetic treatment for addressing fine lines on the face like wrinkles, crow’s feet, frown lines, and the likes. It’s also a treatment for certain conditions like neck spasms, excessive sweating, an overactive bladder, and a lazy eye. This treatment can only be administered by a professional dentist or medical practitioner and involves injecting the Botox drug into the affected area.

The Botox Treatment Process

The first step in the Botox treatment process is the consultation, where you’ll have a sit down with your Colorado Springs dentist. During the consultation, the dentist will discuss your cosmetic goals and look at your medical history. They’ll also ask you whether you have any questions or concerns about the procedure before moving to the next step.

Botox Injection

The dentist will inject the Boyox into the affected area using a thin syringe. Patients will feel nothing more than a slight pinch during the injection. The number of injections the dentist will administer depends on the treatment area and your individual needs. Most patients have Botox injected in their forehead, eyebrows, lip lines, and crow’s feet.

The preparation step involves cleaning the affected area with an antiseptic solution. Sometimes the dentist might inject a local anesthetic or apply an ice pack on the affected area to numb it and minimize discomfort during the procedure. However, this is only necessary for patients who require large Botox doses. Anesthesia and ice packs aren’t standard with Botox procedures.

Post-Treatment Care and Follow-Ups

The affected areas might feel sore and look reddish after the injection. This is perfectly normal and should disappear within a few hours. During this period, avoid rubbing the injected areas since you could spread the Botox to unintended areas and cause unnecessary complications. Botox is temporary, and the dentist will schedule follow-up treatments so you can retain your face's youthful appearance.
